How To Write A Wedding Speech

Wedding speeches don't have to be difficult to write. While they obviously should have some sentimental value, the biggest thing that most people look to do is entertain the guests. However, be careful not to forget that the opening and the closing words of a speech are the ones that make the major impression. Do not rely only on your memory, and think you will stand up and just start speaking. You should have a paper in your pocket, which will help you if you feel you need it. Remember, better safe than sorry! In the beginning, you need to introduce yourself and tell a humorous story so that you may catch the attention of the guests.

You probably know the bride and the groom well, so the only thing you have to do is recall some of the funny moments spent with them and share your experiences with the other guests.

If, however you cannot immediately think of a story, you may help yourself answering some questions. This is the middle part of your speech. As it is the longest one, you need to be cautious about the way you answers these question so that nobody gets hurt or offended.

You should first ask yourself - How long have I known them, and how did we meet? This usually brings back lots of forgotten memories and interesting happenings.

Think about how they met. Was there anything interesting about their first meeting, and were you involved in some way?

If you were there in the moment when the groom proposed to the bride, what was her reaction to his proposal? This will be interesting for everybody else who did not have the opportunity to be there on that very special day.

Think about the way they both like to spend their free time. Do they have the same interests? If not, how in fact have they managed to be together, and what compromises has each of them done during the years?

It will be easy for you to think of a great wedding speech if the couple has children. Everybody will love your speech if you include an event telling about the newlyweds and their children.

Another tip that will help you is to try describing both the bride and the groom with 5 words. Probably some of them may coincide, but this means they in fact make the perfect couple.

In the wedding speech, do not forget to include your story of love. How you met your wife for the first time, what are the qualities that made you fall in love with her, things like that. Always praise her beauty and her personality. She will love this for sure. The bride's blush will surely tell that she likes what you are saying about her. Here again thank her parents for bringing such a wonderful person into your life.

In the end of your wedding speech, you have to include a wish for the future life of the young couple, and of course, you are free to make it a funny one. The last thing you have to do is say something like "Congratulations" or "Cheers" and take a sip of the drink you hold.
