Dominique Moceanu Reveals Long-Lost Sister Jen Bricker: An Acrobat With No Legs!

Dominique Moceanu, a member of the 1996 Olympic gold-medal-winning US women's gymnastics team, received the biggest bombshell of her life.

As her father was dying, and weeks before she gave birth to her first child, she got a letter fro, Jen Bricker, saying that she her biological sister.

As ABC's 20/20 reported last Friday, Bricker revealed that their parents gave her up for adoption when they found out that she had no legs.

The news was equally shocking to Bricker, who grew up idolizing Moceanu, the youngest member of the US Olympic teams "Magnificent Seven."

“I wouldn’t shut up about Dominique!" said Bricker, who incredibly had no idea at the time that the gymnastics champion was her sister.

"I knew she was Romanian. I knew we looked alike. Her biggest fan!”

Amazingly, Bricker, now 24, is a gymnast too. Having no legs didn't stop her from excelling in volleyball, basketball and softball in her youth.

But, just like her sister, 30, her true passion is gymnastics. Bricker even made it all the way to the Junior Olympics as a power tumbler.

When Bricker was 16, her parents, an Illinois couple who adopted her as a baby, revealed to her that Moceanu was actually her older sister.

Four years later, Bricker sent a letter to Dominique.

Published in Moceanu's new memoir Off Balance, the letter included photos and Bricker's adoptive papers. Bricker wrote to her sister:

"I feel that I have one chance to show you I'm not some crazy person, but I'm sure after seeing all of the papers, you'll see that I'm serious."

Moceanu recounted to ABC her reaction to the letter: "It was the biggest bombshell of my life. Rage was my first emotion, had my life been a lie? I had this sister that was born who was given up for adoption, and I never knew it."

When she confronted her parents, they told her that Bricker was in fact her sister and was born one day after Moceanu's sixth birthday.

Her mother, Camelia, said that her husband, Dmitry, forced her to give up the baby, saying that they couldn't afford the medical care.

"I never saw my baby. I never held her, never touched her, never even smelled her. I desperately wanted to, but your father told me we had to give her up and that was that," Camelia told Dominique.

Moceanu had had a tumultuous relationship for years with her parents, who had been athletes and put her in gymnastics at age three.

At 17, Moceanu legally emancipated herself from her parents, whom she claimed had repressed her and squandered her fortune.

She also had a restraining order against her father, who had stalked her and who she feared had hired someone to kill two of her close friends.

They later reconciled, however, and Dmitry even walked Moceanu down the aisle at her 2006 wedding before he passed away in 2008.

The sisters now have a close bond and continue to marvel at their similarities.

"The tones in our voices, our handwriting, the way we laugh and chuckle. It's mind-blowing," Moceanu said of Bricker, who enjoys a strong career as an acrobat and aerialist and has even toured the world with Britney Spears!

(AP) ? One day after the Jacksonville Jaguars took a strong stance on Maurice Jones-Drew's contract situation, the star running back made his feelings equally clear.

And he did it without saying a word.

Jones-Drew skipped the opening day of a mandatory minicamp Tuesday, showing just how disgruntled he is about his current deal, and has no plans to join the Jaguars for any part of the three-day practice session.

Coach Mike Mularkey can fine Jones-Drew up to $60,000 if he misses the entire camp.

"Obviously I would have liked to have had him here a long time ago," said Mularkey, who declined to say whether he will levy a fine. "It's not like all of a sudden something's new. It's been the same case. I'm trying to focus on the guys that are here, similar in talking about the guys that do it right on the weekends. Basically the same thing.

"The guys who show up here have gotten a lot done for us in all phases. Those are the guys I want to talk about. Write a good story about good things for them that are happening."

Jones-Drew, who led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,606 yards, has two years remaining on a five-year contract worth $31 million. He is scheduled to make $4.45 million this season and $4.95 million in 2013.

Coming off a career year, Jones-Drew wants to be one of the league's highest-paid backs. His contract currently ranks eighth among NFL backs, behind Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, Tennessee's Chris Johnson, Philadelphia's LeSean McCoy, Houston's Arian Foster, St. Louis' Steven Jackson, Carolina's DeAngelo Williams and Seattle's Marshawn Lynch.

But Jaguars general manager Gene Smith made it clear Monday that the team has no plans to renegotiate with Jones-Drew, setting the stage for a potentially lengthy holdout.

"He has expressed that he would like to renegotiate and we have expressed again that we feel he has a contract with two years left that we expect him to fulfill those obligations," Smith said.

Both sides have valid arguments.

Jones-Drew signed his deal in 2009, before rushing for at least 1,300 yards in three consecutive seasons. Not only has he seemingly outperformed his contract, MJD is the face of the franchise and probably the only player on the roster known outside small-market Jacksonville.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, paid him based on the expectation that he would flourish as a starter after spending the first three years of his career splitting carries with Fred Taylor. And they don't want to set a precedent of renegotiating with players who have two years remaining on lucrative deals that included big signing bonuses.

Jacksonville also might not be enamored with paying a running back into his 30s, especially one who takes as many pounding hits as Jones-Drew does.

"Guys are going to try and posture themselves to have an advantage because this career is short, especially for running backs ? their shelf life is seen as short ? so there's points that can be made on both sides and they're both perfectly valid," guard Uche Nwaneri said. "He's the face of the franchise, no doubt. But the NFL is a business.

"Just like coaches got to make tough decisions, GMs got to make tough decisions and players have to make tough decisions. It's tough for him to make that decision that I'm not going to be show up here and be with my teammates and be out here working and learning this new system. That's a tough thing to do. ... We want everything to end up being resolved."

The Jaguars have missed the playoffs each of the last four years, but with new ownership, a revamped coaching staff and added playmakers on the NFL's worst offense, they feel they are close to turning things around.

And Jones-Drew is a key to getting it done.

"The unfortunate thing is that he's not here," cornerback Rashean Mathis said. "We know he's getting his work in. We know he's working hard, but to be with the team is the main thing. Whenever he gets here, we will greet him with open arms."

Two More Northern California Investors Plead Guilty to Bid Rigging ...

The Department of Justice said that Douglas Ditmer and Keith Slipper conspired to rig public foreclosure auctions in Contra Costa and Alameda counties beginning in June 2007 through January 2011.

According to DOJ, the primary purpose of the conspiracy was to restrain competition in order to obtain selected real estate offered at the auctions at noncompetitive prices.

The defendants conspired to stop bidding on certain properties in the auctions by negotiating payoffs with other conspirators in order to purchase selected assets for a low price. Following the initial auction, a second, private auction was held open only to conspirators where the property was then given to whoever submitted the highest bid for the house.

When real estate properties are sold at these public foreclosure auctions, the proceeds are used to pay off the mortgage and other debt attached to the property with any remaining money paid to the homeowner. Court documents revealed that these conspirators paid and received money that otherwise would have gone to pay off the mortgage and other holders of debt secured by the properties, and, in some cases, the defaulting homeowner.

?By agreeing not to compete with one another in the bidding process, these investors illegally profited and undermined the integrity of the real estate market,? said Scott Hammond, deputy assistant attorney general of the antitrust division?s criminal enforcement program. ?The conspiracy eliminated competition and prevented lenders and distressed homeowners from getting fair market prices for their property.?

The DOJ?s investigation into bid rigging and fraud at public real estate foreclosure auctions has resulted in 24 plea agreements.

Each violation of the Sherman Act carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $1 million fine, while the defendants also face the possibility of 30 years in prison and an additional $1 million fine for each count of mail fraud.

Apple redesigns its MacBook Pro with new screen, thinner body

8 hrs.

Apple is returning to the high end with a redesigned MacBook Pro, which they announced Monday at their Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco. The new model has a?high-resolution screen and is significantly thinner, and of course has the latest tech inside. Starting at $2199, it's also the most expensive notebook they've offered in years.

For now, they're calling it the "next generation MacBook Pro," in order to distinguish it from the original MBP, which will still be for sale. The screen is the most important upgrade, as it both enables new content in OS X and necessitates new hardware in the laptop itself. It's 15.4 inches and?2880x1800, which is twice as many pixels in each direction as previous 15-inch MacBooks. The old displays are likely an endangered species now; Apple is rapidly upgrading all its products to high-resolution.

The screen, like the iPad's, is improved in every way: contrast, resolution, viewing angle, reflectance. But of course it draws a lot of power, so inside the laptop they've packed a ton of battery. They claim it still gets over 7 hours, though.

Inside, they've got the newest iteration of Intel's Core processors, room for up to 16GB of RAM, and a maximum of 768GB of flash memory. Upgrading, as always with Apple notebooks, will?be extremely expensive: adding 300 MHz and 256GB of storage to the default configuration will run you $600.

On the outside, the new MacBook Pro is almost as thin as a MacBook Air, though it's quite a bit heavier. It doesn't have that line's signature wedge shape, but rather is 0.71 inches thick all the way around. Tipping the scales at 4.5 pounds, it's not exactly a bundle of feathers, but the power to weight ratio is more than competitive.

The speakers have been improved, and there are now USB 3.0 and HDMI out, as well as the expected Thunderbolt and SD card ports.

There are also numerous changes to OS X, such as apps that take advantage of the new resolution; Mountain Lion, as version 10.8 is being called, isn't available yet, but anyone buying a new laptop will be able to upgrade for free.

The original?MacBook Pro and Air also received modest spec bumps (new processors and more storage space), but the spotlight was clearly on the next-generation hardware. And surprisingly, they are all shipping today. More information and details can be found, as always, at Apple's site.

Noisy hospitals need Rx for quiet as patients rest

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Anyone who's had a hospital stay knows the beeping monitors, the pagers and phones, the hallway chatter, the roommate, even the squeaky laundry carts all make for a not-so-restful place to heal.

Hospitals need a prescription for quiet, and new research suggests it may not be easy to tamp down all the noise for a good night's sleep.

In fact, the wards with the sickest patients ? the intensive care units ? can be the loudest.

"It's just maddening," says Dr. Jeffrey Ellenbogen, sleep medicine chief at Massachusetts General Hospital. He pointed to one study that found the decibel level in ICUs reaches that of a shout about half the time.

Patient satisfaction surveys are packed with complaints that the clamor makes it hard to sleep. Yet remarkably little is known about exactly how that affects patients' bodies ? and which types of noises are the most disruptive to shut-eye. So Ellenbogen and researchers from Harvard and the Cambridge Health Alliance recorded different kinds of hubbub in a community hospital in Boston's suburbs to try to find out.

Since it wouldn't be appropriate to experiment on sick people by disrupting their sleep, 12 healthy volunteers were enlisted. They spent three nights in Mass General's sleep lab, slumbering as recorded hospital sounds blared from nearby speakers at increasing volumes.

Sure, a toilet flushing, voices in the hallway or the ice machine woke people once they were loud enough. But electronic sounds were the most likely to arouse people from sleep ? even at decibel levels not much above a whisper, the researchers reported Monday in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

What electronic sounds? Particularly troublesome was the beep-beep-beep from IV machines that signals someone needs more fluid or medicine, one of the most common machines in a hospital. They're just one of a variety of alarms.

Those alarms are meant to alert hospital workers, of course, so the finding raises a conundrum. But some hospitals are testing ways to make at least some monitors flash signals at the nurses' stations rather than sound loudly at the bedside.

The other surprises: The sleepers' heart rates temporarily jumped as much as 10 beats a minute as they were aroused, the researchers reported. And they didn't remember most of the disruptions even though brain recordings clearly showed their sleep was interrupted, which suggests that patients' complaints are underestimating the problem.

"My God, we delivered 100 sounds to this person and woke them up 40 times and they're reporting to us just a couple" of awakenings, Ellenbogen says with disbelief.

If healthy young adults had a pronounced change in heart rate, imagine the stress of alarms sounding all night long in an ICU full of frail, older patients with weakened hearts, he says.

"It clearly has a big impact," agrees Dr. Ivor Berkowitz of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He's a pediatric ICU specialist and wasn't involved with the research but calls it compelling and would like to see children studied in the same way.

Regularly getting too little sleep plays a role in a number of health troubles, from drowsy driving to high blood pressure, obesity, depression, memory problems and a weakened immune system. There's been far less research on how much sleep disruption interferes with recovery from illness. But some studies show patients in noisier wards require more medications and sedatives. Delirium ? a dangerous state of confusion and agitation ? is linked to sleep deprivation and the loss of normal sleep-wake cycles during certain hospitalizations, especially among older people, Ellenbogen notes.

Noise isn't the only challenge. He says sometimes patients are awakened for a blood test or blood pressure check simply because the overnight nurse assigned the task goes off duty at 7 a.m.

Acoustical engineers from Johns Hopkins helped sound an alarm about hospital noise several years ago, reporting that the average level at night has risen dramatically over the past few decades. Now a number of hospitals have begun taking steps to muffle the noise.

Hopkins recently opened a new building constructed for quiet, and Berkowitz says the difference in the new pediatric ICU is stunning. Before, eight children's beds were grouped together in two rooms linked by an opening ? the sound of ventilators and machine alarms and conversation all bouncing around the area, he recalls. Now, every patient room is private.

Sound-absorbing materials line ceilings. There's a rubber floor in the neonatal unit. There's no overhead paging ? workers' phones vibrate when they're needed.

"People have a sense, I think, of being calmer," Berkowitz says. He doesn't have any medical records to show it, but "my gut sense is that it's better for patients."

Existing hospital buildings, especially those without private rooms, require different techniques. For example, Mass General has posted "quiet hours" in the afternoon and at night on certain wards. The lights are dimmed, patients' room doors are closed wherever possible, overhead paging is minimized, and health workers lower their voices and try not to enter rooms unless it's really necessary, says Rick Evans, the hospital's senior director for service.

In his office sits a gadget that looks like a traffic light, flashing yellow or red when the decibel level gets too high. Evans says the hospital is evaluating whether to start using some type of noise sensor for further help.

Until hospitals dampen more noise, Ellenbogen advises families to advocate for quiet:

?If an IV alarm repeatedly sounds, "tell the nurse this has got to stop," he says.

?Ask if it's OK to close the room door.

?Request a fan in the room to be "white noise" that muffles the electronics.

?Speak up if hallway conversations are too loud.

Avoid Embarrassment During Negotiation With Chinese Businessmen

When it comes to negotiation with Chinese businessmen, you want to be as successful as possible. The good news is that by learning more about the Chinese culture of negotiation, this is relatively simple. You will not get everything that you want ? this is negotiation, after all ? but you will get the best possible outcome and a relationship with a business for a very long time.

Avoid a False Sense of Security

It is important to remember that the Chinese are friendly. They do not want to cause a scene in public, will not want to lose dignity and will not want you to lose your dignity either. This is why they will offer compliments and shower you with praise during any negotiation proceedings. During negotiation with Chinese businessmen, it is important to avoid a false sense of security; the friendliness does not mean that you will get everything you want out of the negotiations.

The Chinese are less likely to disagree in public, which may seem like they constantly agree with your offers. However, read between the lines and listen carefully to the words tha they say. This will help to avoid embarrassment at a later date.

Avoid Rushing the Process

The Chinese will want to move slowly through this process. This is not something that will be over in one or two meetings; you will need to have a plan of action and be prepared to make changes along the way. If you are not in it for the long haul then negotiating with Chinese businessmen is not something that you should attempt.

Why do the Chinese take it slow? They like to get to know the people who they are negotiating with. They want to create a relationship with the people. This is also why it is important to arrange face to face meetings for negotiation and not attempt to do everything via the phone.

Avoid Embarrassment Over Money

The Chinese look at money differently to those in the Western World. To the Chinese, 1 yuan is the equivalent of 1 dollar or 1 pound. However, in reality, 1 yuan is only worth a few cents or pence. While going through the process of negotiation with Chinese businessmen, it is important to remember that when dealing with money. When the Chinese attempt to negotiate for less, it is not them being stingy with their money; it is simply because of the way they see the money and ignore the exchange rates.

However, it is important to remember their culture to get the best deal possible. The better relationship you build at the start, the more chance you have of getting the best deal for your company and avoid embarrassment during the negotiation process.

What are you think about it? Please ?leave a response in comment?.

Romney health care vision short on detail

(AP) ? Anticipating the death of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, Mitt Romney outlined his plans Tuesday to expand coverage to the nation's uninsured, while protecting at least one popular safeguard that would be eliminated should the Supreme Court strike down the law.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee promised to help maintain coverage for those with pre-existing health conditions and expand tax breaks to individuals wishing to purchase health insurance directly, instead of through their employer. In some cases, his health care proposal entails turning over the problem to individual states.

"It's important for us to make sure that every American has access to good health care," Romney declared at a campaign stop in Orlando.

With the Supreme Court ruling expected this month, the Republican presidential contender is eager to look forward and offer his own prescriptions for the health care system that voters consistently rank among their priorities. Romney's plans, however, were short on detail and raised questions about how the nation's 50 million uninsured might fare under his leadership.

Romney ignored the primary strategies he pursued as governor of Massachusetts. There, he signed into law a measure that insures virtually all of its citizens by requiring insurance policies and offering subsidies to those who can't afford it.

The so-called "individual mandate" is at the heart of the case before the Supreme Court on the law's constitutionality.

As president, Romney's plan to cover the nation's uninsured involves sending federal Medicaid dollars directly to states, allowing each state government to address the situation in its own way.

"Let states care for their own people in the way they think best. That in my view is the best way to care for the uninsured," Romney said.

The Romney campaign said states would receive Medicaid funding increases "every single year," but would not detail the extent of the increases, which are unlikely to cover the additional cost of providing insurance subsidies to millions of Americans as Obama's plan would.

Cash-strapped states often look to cut health care programs for the poor or low-income to help balance their budgets.

The Romney campaign said states would benefit from billions of dollars saved by streamlining the Medicaid process and eliminating fraud.

Obama's re-election campaign has been aggressively touting the benefits of the health care law, but says it expects the Supreme Court to uphold the overhaul. Obama addressed the issue Monday in an interview with a Colorado television station.

"Even my health care bill, something that has generated a lot of negative attention on the Republican side, was modeled on the health care bill that was passed by their current Republican nominee," he said. "So obviously it wasn't too far out, it was something that in the past would have been considered a fairly mainstream centrist bill."

The campaign on Tuesday attacked the president's Republican rival, suggesting he wants to take the country backward.

"This morning, Mitt Romney promised that if he's elected, insurance companies will be able to discriminate against Americans with pre-existing conditions, charge women higher premiums than they charge men for the same coverage, and kick young adults off their parents' plans when they graduate high school or college," said Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith.

Romney said any law that replaced Obama's should prevent insurance companies from dropping people with pre-existing conditions. He did not address the provision that allows people to stay on their parents' health insurance until they turn 25.

Some insurance companies recently indicated a willingness to maintain that provision, even if the law is repealed. Those who take advantage, however, may have to pay more if the law is struck down because they wouldn't be allowed to use pre-tax dollars to fund the child's premiums.

Romney also said he would "level the playing field" and give individuals tax breaks currently offered to employers to buy health insurance directly. It's unclear how much that might cost the federal government or how the measure fits with Romney's larger plan to reform the tax code.

But he made clear that his first priority would be to do away with the health care law.

"If I'm the president at a time that the Supreme Court has left ObamaCare in place, I will repeal it on Day 1 by sending out a waiver to all 50 states," Romney said.

PST: Live-blogging Tuesday's Euro 12 games

Latest updates

Euro 2012?s second round of group games kicks off today and will waste no time pushing on team face-to-face with elimination. Coming off their 4-1 loss Friday to Russia, the Czech Republic can book their return flight to Prague if they lose today?s first match to Greece.

That game kicks off at noon Eastern in Warsaw, with what?s likely to be Group A?s most entertaining game following at 2:45 p.m. Then, Russia will be in Warsaw to face co-hosts Poland, match that may or may not be embroiled in security concerns. Staging issues aside, Russia can clinch a quarterfinal spot with a win. If Greece and the Czech Republic draw, Russia can clinch first place.

We?ll be updating you on the day?s significant events below. In the interim, here?s some pre-match reading:

And now that you?re through skipping over the bullets, here?s Monday?s action:

(All times Eastern)

1327 ? Greece 1-2 Czech Republic ? Greece is preparing to make their final substitution, and it will be an attacking one. Kostas Mitroglou will come on. Young Kostas Fortounis will come off. Between Mitroglou, Fanis Gekas, Samaras and Salpingidis, this is about as attacking as Greece can be.

1322 ? Greece 1-2 Czech Republic ? Czechs had made another change. Milan Baros is off. Tomas Pakhart is on. Baros was pretty useless.

1310 ? Greece 1-2 Czech Republic ? Petr Cech and Tomas Sivok combine to gift Greece a goal, giving them hope. A passionless ball from Giorgios Samaras on the right bounces toward the spot. Cech?s coming for what looks like an each grab, but he and Sivok collide. The ball rolls to Theofanis Gekas who has an easy finish into an open net.

Looking at the replay, Cech had lost control of the ball before he an Sivok (not Kadlec) collided. He just got kind of spooked by the defender and lost control of the situation.

1302 ? Greece 0-2 Czech Republic - We?re back. Second half has started. Each team makes one halftime chance. Tomas Rosicky is off for the Czechs with Viktoria Plzen?s Daniel Kolar on. That?s either an injury or preservation. For Greece, Theofanis Gekas on for the relatively anonymous Giorgos Fotakis.

1301 ? Greece 0-2 Czech Republic, Halftime ? Some numbers ? Possession: Czech Republic 51-49; Shots: Czech Republic 6-2; Shots on target: Czech Republic 3-2.

1247 ? Greece 0-2 Czech Republic, Halftime ? That?s halftime, and as you can tell by the (in)frequency of updates, thinks slowed down dramatically after the opening fireworks. The Czech Republic still looked the better them but only tested Sifakis once. At the other end, Greece never worried Petr Cech. Their best rout into attack has been Katsouranis playing long balls out of the back, but Samaras has not been able to win enough of them.

Who needs coffee?

1221 ? Greece 0-2 Czech Republic ? Greece goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias plays a ball out an raises his hand to the bench. He needs to come off. Michalis Sifakis comes in, the second match in a row Greece has been forced into a first half substitution.

1219 ? Greece 0-2 Czech Republic ? Greece has come into the match, evening things from the Czechs? rousing opening. Neither team?s creating any decent chances. Greece looks a little more sure of themselves at the back, though they seem to have few options in attack when they try to get forward.

1206 ? Greece 0-2 Czech Republic ? This has been a horror tournament for Jose Holebas. Right back Theodor Gebre Selassie beats Holebas to the line, cuts it into the six where Vaclav Pilar wins a battle with Katsouranis, scoring his second goal of the tournament.

1205 ? Greece 0-1 Czech Republic ? Pre-match we speculated Giannis Maniatis would drop back and play central defense. It?s actually Kostas Katsouranis.

1203 ? Greece 0-1 Czech Republic ? Petr Jiracek has put the Czech up within three minutes. Tomas Hubschman finds Petr Jiracek cutting across Jose Holebas from the right. He?s in on got and finishes into the right netting. It?s 1-0.

1200 ? Greece 0-0 Czech Republic ? We?re off, with Greece moving from left to right.

1155 ? Teams are on the field and listen to/singing their anthems. Kick off is minutes away.

1117 ? We?re still a long way from the top of the hour kickoff, but here are your lineups and my obligatory picks:

Czech Republic: ?ech, Gebre Selassie, Kadlec, Sivok, Limbersk?, Rosick?, Pla?il, Pila?, H?bschman, Jir??ek, Baro? SUBS: La?tuvka, Drobn?, Such?, Hubn?k, Rajtoral, Rezek, Petr?ela, Kol??, Darida, Necid.

Two changes for the Czechs. Viktoria Plzen?s David Limbersky comes in at the back for Roman Hubnik while defensive midfielder Tomas Hubschman gets the start, pushing Jan Rezek to the bench. That likely moves Jaroslav Plasil higher in the formation (into the attacking line of the Czech Republic?s 4-2-3-1). Huschman?s set to start next to Petr Jiracek in front of the defense.

Greece: Chalkias, Maniatis, Papadopoulos, Torossidis, Holebas, Karagounis, Fotakis, Katsouranis, Fortounis, Samaras, Salpingidis SUBS: Tzorvas, Sifakis, Tzavellas, Malezas, Makos, Ninis, Fetfatzidis, Liberopoulos, Mitroglou, Gekas, Pekhart, Lafata.

As we speculated in the preview, Fernando Santos seems to have dropped midfielder Giannis Maniatis into defense, with both Greece?s starting center halves out for this one. Nineteen-year-old Kostas Fourtounis?will take his place in midfield. There are two other changes. Sotiris Ninis and Theofanis Gekas go to the bench. ?Giorgos Fotakis?and first match hero Dimitris Salpingidis are in the XI.

Picks for today? I have Greece 2-1 and Poland to upset Russia by the same score.

Iran's Ahmadinejad wounded but wily in final year

(AP) ? Iran's president hardly seemed like a fading political force at a security summit in Beijing last week. Leaders from China and Russia carved out time to hold private talks with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and gave him center stage to unleash his pet theories about the unraveling of Western power.

But Ahmadinejad always seems to catch a second wind on the road. It's at home where his political wounds are most visible and his expiration date is already factored into high-stakes calculations.

The one-time favored son of Iran's theocracy ? its flame-throwing populist in a common man's wind breaker or bureaucrat's off-the-rack suit ? is now limping into his last year in office sharply weakened and in the unexpected position as an outcast among hard-liners.

"It may be hard to believe for those who just pay attention to the theatrics of Iranian politics, but Ahmadinejad has emerged ? somewhat by process of elimination ? as something of a moderate in relation to the archconservatives in the ruling system," said Salman Shaikh, director of The Brookings Doha Center in Qatar.

"The reformers and opposition have been crushed or silenced," he added. "That leaves Ahmadinejad and his big political ego.'"

Ahmadinejad lost a power struggle last year with the ruling system, which had helped him rise from the relative obscurity of Tehran's city hall seven years ago and stood by his side in 2009 amid the mass chaos from his disputed re-election.

Yet he still has some political ammunition in reserve. How he uses it will set the tone for Iran's internal policymaking as it struggles with big questions such as: how far to bend in the nuclear standoff with the West, how to counter deepening sanctions and what to do with the combative and ambitious Ahmadinejad after the June 2013 elections to pick his successor.

A pivotal element, analysts say, is whether Ahmadinejad will revive his challenges to the alpha-omega powers of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his backers, led by the Revolutionary Guard. The feud began last year with Ahmadinejad's drive to give the presidency more sway over key policies such as intelligence and foreign affairs ? which are firmly in the hands of the clerics.

That fight is lost. He can still, however, battle for a political ally on the presidential ballot next year, which will be Ahmadinejad's last in office because of term limits. He also can attempt to nudge Iran's position in the nuclear talks with the U.S. and other world powers, which are scheduled to resume next week in Moscow.

Ahmadinejad is seen as possibly more open to deals with Washington that would accommodate both sides: allowing Iran to continue some level of uranium enrichment for reactor fuel but giving more room for U.N. inspections. The negotiations, however, are completely overseen by the ruling system. And it's even possible, some analysts say, that Khamenei wants to avoid any possible breakthroughs with the West until Ahmadinejad is out of office ? fearing he could use it to gain political mileage.

"Ahmadinejad is a lame duck, and the ruling system wants to keep it that way," said Mehrzad Boroujerdi, a Syracuse University professor who follows Iranian affairs. "They want to keep him on a short leash. He'll yank back, though. It's the classic case of a weak office occupied by a strong personality."

Iran's presidency guides the mainstream economy and many day-to-day functions. But major decisions, from international affairs to military priorities, are controlled by the theocracy. This is where Ahmadinejad made his ill-fated gamble last year.

Dozens of Ahmadinejad's allies were arrested or purged from politics, and he was effectively stripped of his ability to groom a successor. An angry Khamenei even hinted that Iran could one day abandon the directly elected presidency system in favor of a prime minister.

Elections in February reinforced the anti-Ahmadinejad ranks in parliament. In March, Ahmadinejad became the first Iranian president brought before lawmakers for grilling over his policies and confrontations with Khamenei ? whose hard-core followers believe is answerable only to God.

It's left Ahmadinejad politically battered, but still with a sizable base of supporters among Iran's working classes and rural poor who see the ruling clerics as aloof and out of touch.

In a speech in May, Ahmadinejad indirectly took a swipe at the theocracy by praising the 1,000-year-old epic poem "Shahnameh," which recounts tales of Persia's pre-Islamic Zoroastrian religion. "Wherever there is justice, freedom and monotheism, there is Iran," he told the crowds.

"We will witness more hue and cry by Ahmadinejad," predicted independent Tehran-based political analyst Behrouz Shojaei.

This is what worries the ruling clerics.

It's not certain whether they fully sanctioned Ahmadinejad's most headline-grabbing statements over the years, including calling Israel a doomed state and questioning the extent of the Holocaust. But there is little doubt that Ahmadinejad's bluster has complicated negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, which Tehran insists is only for energy and medical research.

"Ahmadinejad is not likely to leave a shining legacy," said Ehsan Ahrari, a Virginia-based political analyst. "His rants about the so-called mythical nature of the Holocaust unnecessarily heightened tensions with Israel."

Gary Sick, an Iranian affairs expert at Columbia University, also believes all the bluster accounts for the world powers' tough negotiating stance in the nuclear talks. "The image he has created is that Iran is treacherous and extremely ideological by his loose talk and swaggering around," he said. "In many ways it's a false image, but he has reinforced this in the minds of the West."

Despite the heavy attention on Iran's external struggles ? including the future of critical ally Bashar Assad in Syria ? the coming year could be a highly inward-looking one for Iran. Ahmadinejad will be hunting for some type of post-presidency political role. Meanwhile, the ruling system will be vetting candidates for the next presidential election ? with all expectations that only reliable and pliable figures will make the cut.

The theocracy holds all the cards. It clears all candidates for the presidency and parliament. The message these days: Reformists, liberals and any others likely to challenge the ruling system are out.

Front-runners at the moment include Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and ex-Revolutionary Guard commander Mohsen Rezaei. All would likely strike a more milder tone on the world stage than Ahmadinejad.

Meir Javedanfar, an Iranian-born political analyst based in Israel, said Khamenei feels particularly burned by Ahmadinejad after coddling him as the "son he always wanted." And the Revolutionary Guard "will try their level best to convince Khamenei to choose a yes man," said Javedanfar, co-author of the Ahmadinejad biography "The Nuclear Sphinx of Tehran."

The political freeze-out of Ahmadinejad, however, could free him up for greater grandstanding. Some believe he could go further with his challenges to the ruling system as a way to cater to his remaining supporters.

Still, Ahmadinejad is leaving people guessing. On his website last week, he wrote about how his concept of "justice" means not only facing enemies but also battling a "friend, comrade, party-mate and colleague."

It's unclear whether this was a warning shot of a new battle with the ruling clerics or a lament about how former conservative allies have abandoned him.

Of the five presidents since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, only two have moved onto prominent roles: Khamenei and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who also is a foe of Ahmadinejad dating back to the 2005 presidential election race. Ahmadinejad's predecessor, Mohammad Khatami, has been neutralized along with his reformist allies.

"Ahmadinejad does not want to fade away," said Sadegh Zibakalam, a Tehran University political science professor. "Considering his personality and character, it will be hard for him to leave the stage."

Bahkan Israel mengganggap Ghoyyim (non Yahudi) hanyalah binatang.
